| Strathclyde Shield Final 2010 - Posted by DavidH @ 09:32:12 |
| After a confusing and tortuous end to the Sunday league season in Division One, Active Life Club met Queen’s Park at Hamilton Crescent on Sunday. Queen’s Park won the toss and asked ALC to bat first on the same pitch which had hosted the Scottish Cup Final the day before. A stop start innings saw ALC lose wickets every time they seemed to be getting on top but consistent batting all the way down enabled them to post a very respectable 192 all out on a surface that offered assistance to good bowling and full value for quality batting. Mohammed Kamran led the reply for Queen’s Park with a sparkling 108* as they overcame the loss of an early wicket to reach their target with 6 overs to spare and 5 wickets in hand. Queen’s Park take hold of the Shield which is presented to the winners of the play off between the top two sides in the 1st Division of the Strathclyde League. Congratulations to Queen’s Park, commiserations to ALC, and thanks to West of Scotland and particularly Stuart Beaufoy for providing a fine tea at short notice. Plans are at an advanced stage for a redevelopment of the rules and regulations for the Strathclyde League in 2011 to promote the league as a more serious entity and improve its status among the competitions available to clubs in the WDCU. | Kelburne 150 Years - Posted by Jim Murphy @ 15:23:49 |
Kelburne Cricket Club – 150 Years Not Out Kelburne Cricket Club will play a match versus a Cricket Scotland President’s XI this Sunday 29 August 2010 at their Whitehaugh Ground in Paisley to commemorate the Club’s 150th Anniversary. The Kelburne Cricket Section, President, Kenny MacLeod commented, “It is a great honour that Bob McFarlane the Cricket Scotland President has agreed to send a team to help the Club celebrate this significant milestone in the Club’s history. Over the years some great players have turned out for this great Club and indeed played against its teams. In the 1950’s famous Australian cricketer and renowned commentator, Richie Benaud graced the Whitehaugh turf when he led an Australian XI to victory over Scotland. It will be good to see so many former Scottish Internationalists as well as Kelburne players both old and new taking part this Sunday.” The Kelburne team will be led by current first XI captain, Steven McLister and includes Jamie MacDonald, Scott Hamilton and professional, David Harper. Former Kelburne players Anjum Aslam, Javid Ashraf and Gregor Maiden amongst others will also be appearing for the home Club. The Cricket Scotland President’s XI will be led by former Scottish Internationalist and Ferguslie Player, Iain Kennedy who will be joined by another Ferguslie stalwart, Stewart Kennedy, Tom Black, Richard Young and Kelburne “old boy”, Dougie Wylie. Such a formidable array of talent requires top quality officials to provide the necessary standard of decision making that these players are accustomed to and Kelburne are therefore particularly fortunate to be able to call on the services of Cricket Scotland Umpires, Mac Wylie, Jim McLymont and Bob Wright. In addition to the match there will also be a number of stalls at the event including baking, bottles, books, raffles and a bbq for spectators to enjoy. The match starts at 2pm and all are welcome to attend and help the Club celebrate its 150 years. |

| Western Cup Final - Posted by DavidH @ 10:57:44 |
| The Western Cup landed at Hamilton Crescent for the ninth time in its 63-year-history on Sunday (22 August), after West of Scotland's Partick side produced a great all-round performance to defeat East Kilbride by 20-odd runs. Batting first, the Partick total of 126 for the loss of five wickets was led by veteran Alan Williamson's assured half-century, with good support from 14-year-old Andrew Umeed for a confidence-giving first-wicket partnership. But the run-rate dipped in the middle of the innings, and the final total was by no means a winning one, given East Kilbride's powerful stroke-makers. Indeed, with skipper Umair Saeed masterminding the response, and Shiraz Khalid going great guns in the early overs, East Kilbride looked well on the way to their target. These two were sent back to the pavilion by a couple of great boundary catches - first Khalid, pouched with confidence by Partick skipper Johnny Graham, then - just a few overs from the end - Saeed going for a straight maximum, gathered just inside the pavilion rope by the super-cool Williamson. Thanks to the West of Scotland club for staging this worthy and competitive final, and for the earlier Rowan Cup final won by Greaves Clydesdale a few weeks back. They complete a hat-trick of 2010 finals at Hamilton Crescent with the Scottish Cup, no less, on Saturday 4 September, between Uddingston and Stirling County. |

| Punctuality - Posted by Jim Murphy @ 19:05:25 |
| Clubs / Teams are reminded that the should be in a position to make the toss at 1245 for Saturday League matches and that fully completed teamlists MUST be exchanged / given to umpires at this time. Failure to tender teamlists timeously may result in point deductions. Clubs are reminded of Law 1.3 (a) If a captain is not available during the period in which the toss is to take place, then a deputy must be responsible for the nomination of the players..... |

| Discipline: Fielding Of An Ineligible Player - Posted by Jim Murphy @ 21:48:44 |
| At a meeting of the WDCU League Management Committee, held at Shawholm, home of Poloc Cricket Club on Monday 2nd of August commencing at 1905 hours the following deciisions were made: 1.Irvine being a club who admitted fielding a player with a fabricated registration number in a WDCU Saturday League match (Kirkstyle v Marress Saturday 17th July 2010) have both their teams relegated at the end of season 2010. This penalty to apply to both Irvine (Division 1 to Division 2) and Marress (Division 4 to Division 5) as this is an offence by the club. The result of this match being reversed and points allocated as Kirkstyle 25 points Marress 0 points. 2. One of the three Irvine Designated Player Registrars be severely censured and removed from the list of registrars by the Registration Faciltator for allowing the player to play knowing no registration form had been submitted and for alloting an unregistered player with a ficticious registration number which was entered on the teamsheet. 3. The player was considered to have been naive in believing that Irvine were registering him when in fact no registration form had been submitted and consequently he was only severely cesured and reminded that he was in fact registered for another WDCU Club. Clubs are again reminded that the LMC will take any breach in the registration process / rules very seriously. |

| Strathclyde League - Posted by DavidH @ 20:36:25 |
| Could all teams please forward results as soon as possible to Frank Johnstone in order to ensure the tables are kept up to date. There are also a couple of issues which seem to be recurring: 1. Match balls must be either Reader Sovereign, Oxbridge, Lords or the CA Woodworm ball, any of those detailed and proscribed by the WDCU for League Cricket in the past four years. Other balls are strictly forbidden and opposing captains have the right to inspect the ball before the start of the innings and request a change if this regulation is not met! 2. The standard and method of scoring in the Strathclyde League must be of a reasonable standard. Although there is no requirement for clubs to provide a non-playing scorer it is reasonable to expect the batting side to complete both scorebooks during an innings! With team lists now in use there is also no reason for a scorebook to contain batting line ups consisting of first names. A list of names such as 1. Hugh 2. Joe 3. Mushtaq 4. Andy is not acceptable. Initials and family names must be used to ensure transparency. 3. The square leg umpires position is not a place to hide kids nor to spend time texting, it is an important part of controlling the match and square leg umpires must have some knowledge of the laws of the game, ignorance is no defence! | Strathclyde Shield Final 2009 - Posted by DavidH @ 20:34:43 |
| The play off to decide last year’s Strathclyde Shield was finally relayed recently at Hamilton Crescent between West of Scotland and Active Life Club. A match that ebbed and flowed back and forth throughout, finally brought the 2009 Sunday league to a close with Active Life coming out on top by 38 runs. That result looked a long way off when West’s opening bowlers were beating the bat time and again by skilfully obtaining exaggerated movement off the Partick pitch but Active Life hung in and, despite losing regular wickets, flourished in the later overs against West’s backup attack and posted 200 from their 40 overs. In reply, West raced away to reach 50 in 6 overs, but Active Life’s change bowlers inexorably tightened the noose and as wickets fell the target began to look out of reach for West and they eventually expired for 162. An excellent match, played in great spirit and hosted magnificently by West of Scotland, but congratulations to Active Life Club who follow West and Glasgow University Staff as winners of the Strathclyde Shield. |

| Following several complaints, the LMC remind all Clubs, Captains and players of their responsibilities to the game and to the Spirit of Cricket with regard to over zealous and prolonged appealing and generally try to pressurise umpires especially "junior" umpires. The LMC will take strong action against any player, captain or team failing to act correctly in this area of the game. |
