The WDCU committee has agreed to bring the continued delays in completing the initial round of the Western Cup to a close. From Group B, Titwood and Torrance House will advance to the quarter-finals and, from Group D, Partick will take the runners-up spot. The home clubs concerned - namely East Kilbride, West of Scotland and Clydesdale - are asked to make immediate arrangements to play their quarter-finals within the next seven days, please.

Shawholm have become the first team to qualify to go forward to the quarter-finals of this year's Western Cup, following the completion of their initial group round-robin matches, which are a new feature of this year's competition. Shawholm have defeated Marress, Kilmarnock and St Ninians, and lost only to Cambusdoon. The latter have also won their only other completed game, and need only to win one of their remaining two group games, against Marress or Kilmarnock, to join Shawholm in the quarter-finals. No other groups are well enough advanced to have a guaranteed qualifier at this stage. As with all cup competitions in the west, the inclement weather during May has led to a backlog of fixtures in the Western Cup, and clubs are urged to catch up as soon as they can.
