West District Ladies Win National 8-aside Hardball Tourney At Lochlands - Posted by Iain Stewart WDO @ 18:56:13
Well done to Helen Dicksons u18 district girls who beat many more experienced teams (with far more strength in numbers) to win the Development Trophy at Arbroath UTD C.C. on Sunday. Four teams – Borders/Tayside, Kinross, West of Scotland and St Andrews University competed in the event.
It gave Kathryn White, Scotland’s under-17 coach, the opportunity to assess the players. Thanks also to Farhaj Siddiqui for coaching the girls lately.

Playing Condidtions - Posted by Jim Murphy @ 07:52:47
ALL clubs are reminded that play in matches is to commence at 1300 unless mutally agreed by both captains and authorised by the League Management Committee. The home team should have everything in place to allow a 1300 start.
In the event of papers, glass etc. littering the playing area the HOME team should arrange a "clear up" well before play is due to commence. Only under truly exceptional circumstances should a match start later than 1300.

The playing conditions require the provision of teas -there have been some complaints in recent weeks - clubs are reminded of their obligations in this respect -ideally there should be a choice of vegetatrian and meat sandwiches, and a choice of hot and cold drinks.

As stated in the "Playing Conditions" - Boundary, pitch and fielding circles shall be clearly defined. This means proper markers, a white line, a rope or a clear boundary e.g. wall. fence etc.

The Committee may take strong disciplinary action for repeated disregard of any of the above.

Cumbernauld Cc -artificial Pitch - Posted by DavidH @ 13:23:19
It has come to the notice of the League Management Committee that visiting clubs at Millarston have been ignoring the wishes of Cumbernauld CC (and the accepted practice and custom of the WDCU for the last 25 years) for bowlers and batsmen not to wear metal spiked boots. The damage done to pitches by use of spiked footwear is thoroughly unacceptable -especially in these times where pitches are at a premium. Failure to comply with this code of conduct may result in the Management Committee taking sanctions against offending clubs e.g. Deduction of points, suspension of Captains and / or some other penalty.

We are in the business of promoting cricket in the west and trying to get the maximum number of games played -we expect the support of ALL clubs in this regard. Players by and large are fully aware that "spikes" are not used on artificial surfaces and Cumbernauld have not had a grass pitch since their days at Springburn Park in the 1980s? so there can be no accusation of them "springing it" on visitors.

Please be aware that common courtesy alone would demand that the wishes of Cumbernauld (and other clubs with artificial tracks) be repected meaning that sanctions by the League Management Committee will not need to be taken.
